Maxx Kurzunski is a lighting designer, event producer, and theater professional with extensive experience in lighting engineering, stage production, and event management. They are currently the production manager for Oasis, San Francisco’s premiere drag nightclub, and work as a freelance designer and producer. Additionally, they are involved in producing Tinder Disrupt in both San Francisco and New York. In 2024, Maxx was the lighting designer for Burning Man’s Center Canopy.
Previously, Maxx was a Senior Lighting Engineer for Advanced Systems Group at Google, where they managed lighting technology and design for multiple onsite event venues. They continue to work with ASG as a lighting designer and consultant. Maxx also played a significant role in the San Francisco theater scene, serving as the resident lighting designer at Custom Made Theatre Co. from 2012 to 2019, contributing to over 30 productions, including two that later premiered off-Broadway.
As a founding member of FaultLine Theater, Maxx led the production of more than 25 world premiere plays and musicals. They served as the Managing Director of FaultLine Theater for nine years before stepping down in 2020. Beyond theater, Maxx has designed lighting for numerous dance productions, including work with Oakland Ballet, Tim Rubel Human Shakes, and Animi Motus.
Their work extends to large-scale event production, including weddings, corporate events, and brand activations for companies like Google, Cisco-Meraki, Okta, GitHub, and CloudFlare. Since 2015, they have been involved in designing and producing the CloudFlare Internet Summit.
Maxx has received multiple awards from the SF Bay Area Critics Circle for lighting and video design and has been nominated for various honors by Theater Bay Area
